First Saturday Devotion: The Time Is Now

By John C. Preiss

We live in an hour of profound crisis.

War spreads across nations. Violence erupts in streets and homes. Families fracture. Truth is mocked. Purity is ridiculed. The sacred is treated as ordinary, and sin is no longer merely tolerated—it is celebrated. Many souls live as if God does not exist, while countless others have grown lukewarm, distracted, or spiritually asleep.

In such a time, Heaven’s message at Fatima resounds with renewed urgency:

The time is now.

Now is the time to return to prayer.

Now is the time to make reparation.

Now is the time to answer Our Lady’s plea for the First Saturday Devotion.

Now is the time to hasten the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

When the Blessed Virgin appeared at Fatima in 1917, she warned the world that if mankind did not repent, wars and persecutions would follow. She spoke not vaguely, but with maternal clarity. Her words were not threats—they were warnings born of love. She came as a mother who sees danger approaching her children and cries out for them to return to safety.

Sadly, much of what she foretold has come to pass.

The twentieth century became the bloodiest in human history. And though many hoped the modern world would progress into peace, we now witness fresh conflict, moral confusion, spiritual darkness, and a rebellion against God more aggressive than ever before. The battle today is not only political or military—it is spiritual. It is a battle for souls.

And Heaven has already given us the remedy.

Our Lady asked for the First Saturday Devotion: that on five consecutive first Saturdays, the faithful go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, pray five decades of the Rosary, and keep her company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary—all in reparation for sins committed against her Immaculate Heart.

Why this devotion?

Because the sins of the world wound not only the Heart of Christ, but also the Heart of His Mother. Every blasphemy against her, every rejection of her role in salvation history, every corruption of innocence, every soul led away from God—these pierce her maternal heart. And yet in her mercy, she asks not for vengeance, but for reparation.

She asks her children to console her.

What mother would not weep seeing her children destroy themselves?

What mother would not plead for them to come home before it is too late?

The First Saturday Devotion is not merely a private act of piety. It is participation in Heaven’s rescue mission for souls.

Too many Catholics treat these requests lightly—as optional, symbolic, or secondary. But Fatima was not a decorative apparition for devotional posters and statues. It was a prophetic intervention in history. Heaven entered our world with urgency because mankind was—and remains—in danger.

Look around.

We are witnessing nations armed for destruction.

We are witnessing children taught confusion instead of truth.

We are witnessing attacks on marriage, family, innocence, and the dignity of human life.

We are witnessing indifference toward the Eucharist and widespread neglect of the sacraments.

We are witnessing souls perish for lack of prayer and repentance.

And still many wait.

They wait for “a better time” to become serious about their faith.

They wait until life calms down.

They wait until they feel more spiritual.

They wait until the crisis becomes undeniable.

But Heaven says: Do not wait.

The time is now.

Every Rosary prayed matters.

Every confession made matters.

Every Communion received in grace matters.

Every act of reparation matters.

The enemy wants Catholics discouraged, passive, and convinced that their small sacrifices make little difference. But Fatima teaches the opposite: hidden acts of fidelity move Heaven.

One faithful soul living the First Saturday Devotion can obtain graces for countless others. One family dedicated to Our Lady can become a light in darkness. One parish awakened to reparation can transform a community.

The Triumph of the Immaculate Heart is not a distant abstraction. It is a promised reality.

Our Lady declared at Fatima:

“In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”

That triumph will come.

But Heaven calls us to participate in bringing it about.

God, in His wisdom, has chosen to make Mary an instrument of grace in these latter times. Her triumph will not come through worldly power, political systems, military victories, or technological progress. It will come through conversion, repentance, prayer, sacrifice, and hearts consecrated to her Son through her.

The world does not need more noise.

It needs saints.

It does not need more outrage.

It needs reparation.

It does not need more despair.

It needs hope rooted in Heaven’s promises.

The First Saturday Devotion is a school of hope. It forms us in perseverance, humility, and love. It teaches us to console the Heart of Mary while allowing her to shape our own hearts into likeness with Christ.

Some may ask: Can praying and making reparation really change the world?

Yes.

History has shown again and again that prayer changes nations, averts disasters, converts sinners, and calls down miracles. But more importantly, God Himself has told us through Our Lady that this is what He desires.

The greatest tragedies of history have often come not because evil was powerful, but because good people delayed responding.

Do not delay.

If you have never begun the First Saturday Devotion, begin now.

If you have fallen away from it, return now.

If you have been faithful already, deepen your fervor now.

Gather your family. Invite your parish. Encourage your friends. Spread Fatima’s message with urgency and charity.

Because while darkness grows, grace is greater.

While sin abounds, mercy abounds more.

While the world trembles, the Immaculate Heart remains victorious.

We are not called to panic.

We are called to respond.

The saints did not become saints by lamenting the darkness of their age. They became saints by lighting candles within it.

This is our moment.

This is our generation’s test.

Will we ignore Heaven’s plea?

Will we remain spiritually asleep while souls perish?

Will we treat Our Lady’s requests as optional while the world burns?

Or will we answer her as devoted children?

The time is now.

Now to repent.

Now to pray.

Now to make reparation.

Now to live Fatima.

Now to hasten the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

May every First Saturday become a cry of love rising from earth to Heaven.
