The prayer life of the parents is crucial in the home. This life will radiate down to the children and will create a prayer life within them. As parents, our “actions speak louder than words” , and this is truly the case when it comes to prayer in the home. We must not pray only when prayer is needed for extreme situations. We should pray all day. Short prayers can be said throughout the day.
The rosary should be prayed daily with all family members together. The rosary was reaffirmed to us at Fatima by Our Blessed Mother. This is such a powerful prayer and will help the children to form a habit to pray it daily as they grow older. The rosary is a scriptural prayer and the mysteries focus on the life of Christ. Parents should be forming the children in the faith, it should not be left up to the CCD programs at the local parish.
Sitting down for mealtime and saying the blessing and after grace is a good way to form good habits with the children. Our society is not a slow down society, many seem to be always on the go headed to the next event. Make it a point to sit down at the table for at least one meal a day with all family members present. This is a great time for sharing and fellowship.
We should also have that intimate moment with God. That one on one prayer time each night before we lay our heads to sleep. This is a time of thanksgiving and a time to pray for others who may need prayers because of suffering or an adversity. Prayer should be an essential part of our day.
