As I sit in contemplation before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, I start my meditation by asking Him to give me wisdom and knowledge.
All of us come from different walks of life and our family values have been ingrained in us from early childhood, whether good or bad. In today’s society the distortion of family life is so evident. We hear it on the news and read it in our local newspapers; homosexual marriages, divorces, abortion, contraception, sexual abuse and the horror of the list continues on.
As parents our main goal is to bring our children up and form them in the fullness of the faith. The world is a difficult place to face on a daily basis not only for adults but also for children. It is so much easier to avoid candy if you are not in a candy store. In our families we must provide protection for our children from inaccurate and non-Christian worldviews. With this said, there are so many positive things happening within the family that can help, for example; homeschooling. Homeschooling is a great tool for parents to form their children in the true faith without the outside influences. We must also realize that we should not lock our children away from society, but educate them so they will not stray from their faith. This will enable them to evangelize to other young people. If we complete this mission with our children society will gradually become a Christian society. Parents, we can make a difference in our society, one family at a time, and this is why the family does matter.
